Kari Tapiola on child labour (2) A Globalized Phenomenon
Today child labour is often considered to be concentrated in export-oriented economies, mainly in "sweatshops" that subcontract for multinationals. We often think about the case of India, in particular its textile industry. But what is the situation in reality ? Is child labour a problem only in developing countries ?
Also child labour takes many forms and working children have many faces. Kari Tapiola explains to us what we are talking about when we talk about child labour? He highlight the fact that the problem started to be questionned and tackled when child labour became visible in most of the European countries at the end of the 19th century.
