In 1993, at a refugee camp in Nepal, youth often had to make their own footballs at the beginning of the UNHCR sports program. There was no funding available to purchase professional footballs or other sports equipment. Within a few years, this situation changed with the support of international athletic federations and generous corporate and individual donors. As is the case in most parts of the world, sport provides refugee youth with a positive and successful environment in which they can thrive.
