A discussion on the theme " The art of sitting at the table..."
The historian Véronique Stenger, member of the editorial staff of geneveMonde.ch, will participate this Thursday, March 30, in a discussion within the Festival Histoire et Cité, on the theme " The art of sitting at the table: sociability and banquets (16th-20th century)". Alongside the speakers Pierre-Etienne Bourneuf, Marco Schnyder and Andreas Würgler, Véronique Stenger will address the issue of diplomatic banquets. Mathieu Caesar will be the moderator.
Occasions of ostentatious consumption and sociability, banquets were also often diplomatic tools. We will discuss the practices and representations of banquets organized in Switzerland or by Swiss women abroad between the 16th and 20th centuries.
A roundtable discussion of the Festival Histoire et Cité, in partnership with geneveMonde.ch and the Department of General History at the University of Geneva (UNIGE).
Thursday. 30.03.23 / 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm / Geneva - Uni Dufour, Room U408
Let's also mention the last days of the exhibition we are presenting at the Bains des Pâquis on the theme "At the Time of Banquets". It ends on Sunday, April 2.
