Cointrin, gateway to international Geneva
Cointrin, gateway to international Geneva
The commentary at the beginning of this video is taken from a report from September 1959 on the DC-7 departure from Cointrin airport.
This montage of RTS archives covers some of the major diplomatic meetings that have taken place in Geneva since the end of the Second World War. Over the course of summit conferences, peace negotiations, discussions between great power and the presence of historical figures who came to speak in Geneva, the Cointrin airport asserts itself as the space where the rules of protocol of the welcome are played out as well as the preparatory declarations for future exchanges in the City.
These sequences of moments of history, blended in time, express the extent to which Cointrin airport has become essential to international Geneva.
Note (3:44) the thanks of President Eisenhower at the end of the Summit in 1955, addressed to the Mayor of Geneva and its inhabitants.
